Schools in the News
Have you watched the news lately? Well I have been trying to more lately and realized how depressing it can be. Both Memphis City Schools and Shelby County Schools are all over the news. They are not just on the news for academics either, but it consists more of shootings and sexual assaults. Earlier this week a student at Hamilton High School in Memphis shot another student. Then an expelled student of Millington-Central High School in Shelby County sexually assaulted another student in the bathroom about an hour and a half after school was let out. This is insane and extremely disappointing. We need to do something about our two school systems. I know that these kinds of things can happen anywhere at anytime but I also think that if the schools were safer and had more supervision then these incidents would not occur. It seems as if the students no longer respect the teachers or students. It also seems like that police officers are no longer a threat. Why is this? I definitely think that there should be strict consequences when these incidents do occur so that maybe the students would be more afraid. Now I realize why I do not like to watch the news, it is too depressing.

I watched the same thing! The funny thing is it happens all the time in Memphis. Thats why i hate watching the news! It's def. depressing. The bad thing is everyone is use to hearing that here. I was watching it with my brother and he over heard it and just said "oh again" and then walked off. Memphis news is always bad. Just one day i want to come across the news talking about something good! ya know?
I do not watch the news either, as you already know, but my mom told me yesterday about the shooting. It ends up there was another one a day or so after that one. My mom actually found out about the shootings through my aunt who lives in Virginia. I thought it was pretty crazy that she knew about it. But I am with you on the security; they need to do something to stop it.
